      Summary: A cornerstone of literary writing, scenes dramatize a moment and bring it to life for readers.
      Description: We’ll look at effective scene-setting such as sensory detail, character, dialog, and plot. Through examples, discussion, and a writing exercise, students will practice using these building blocks to craft their own scenes. For fiction and creative nonfiction writers., Gail Folkins is the author of the memoir Light in the Trees, named a 2016 Foreword INDIES finalist in the nature category, and Texas Dance Halls: A Two-Step Circuit. Folkins teaches creative writing at Hugo House.
      Class Notes: Library events and programs are free and everyone is welcome. Registration is not required for this writing class however seating will be on a first come, first seated basis. Doors to the event will open 30 minutes prior to the start of the class. We’ll try our best to make room for all interested writers, but students may be turned away if the room is filled to capacity. Due to fire code, we cannot exceed the maximum capacity for our rooms., Please bring a pen/pencil and paper or fully-charged laptop to each class., Accommodation requests may be made with seven days advanced notice to LEAP or call (206) 615-1380 (v/tty)., Seattle Writes supports local writers through programs, workshops, write-ins, and by providing spaces to work throughout the city., The Seattle Writes series is made possible with the generous support of a grant from the Amazon Literary Partnership.
