      Rachael Yamagata

      with Zach Djanikian
For someone with a well-established flair for lyrics, Rachael Yamagata can get fairly terse when describing herself. In her self-penned online bio she calls herself: Good with Cats. Bad with Plants. Favorite College course, Sociology of the Criminal Mind. Once run down by a bull. But dont overlook her last note: Believes in love, loyalty and the lingering magic of music. Those tenets truly inform every song, every record, every performance, by the acclaimed Virginia-born singer-songwriter, who has been bowling over fans and critics ever since her 2003 debut. Rachaels upcoming album, slated for an early 2016 release, showcases her knack for shining a revealing light on life, love and relationships. Bull-by-the-horns artist that she is, Rachael wrote the album, financed it through crowdsourcing and recorded it for the most part at her Woodstock, N.Y. home. John Alagia (John Mayer, Jason Mraz) later came in to serve as co-producer. Of Japanese, German and Italian ancestry, Rachael broke into music professionally with the band Bumpus. She went on to release a self-titled debut EP in 2003, followed by three studio albums, Happenstance (2004), Elephants Teeth Sinking Into Heart (2008) and Chesapeake (2011). She has toured the world several times, having performed at such prestigious venues including Madison Square Garden, Radio City Music Hall, Carnegie Hall, SXSW, Austin City Limits, Glastonbury, and Bonnaroo. Rachael also made guest appearances on The Tonight Show, Conan, had her songs placed in hit TV shows such as NCIS: New Orleans, Greys Anatomy and How I Met Your Mother. Rachael also had the honor of performing alongside Bette Midler and Sheryl Crow at a 2008 fundraiser attended by President Obama and Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor. Over the years, Rachael Yamagata has earned legions of fans around the world, with one admiring critic calling her the troubadour of heartbreak. She writes for anyone who, as she put it, has been run over by love. Since thats just about everyone on planet Earth, the lingering magic of Rachaels music speaks to every heart, whatever its state of disrepair.
