      Dealing with Daily Difficulties: Depression

Depression can be a problem any time of the year, but a lot of folks notice that as there is less daylight, more dark nights, dreary rains – just the thought can induce a sense of depression, a dark mind. Buddha sometimes referred to negative mind as darkness, in actuality Buddha’s job is to help people remove this darkness from our minds. If we follow his instructions which he expounded solely to cure this darkness of mind, we will find our mind getting brighter and brighter with joy and wisdom until our mind too radiates wisdom that heals others minds in deep ways. Even though we can’t make the sun shine later or the skies produce less rain, but we can be masters of our own mind. We can make our mind brighter and experience greater happiness. We all can do this much, starting with this class.

In this Friday Night Lecture, listen as our local monk, Gen Kelsang Wangpo, discusses the experience of depression from a Buddhist perspective, a perspective of inner strength and ability. This teaching will provide insights into how we can change our perspectives and attitudes, as well as our daily activities to lighten the burden depression places upon us and lift the veil of darkness we get buried under.
