      Companion Rescue Workshop - Alpental

Meet near fire pits on the main plaza.  Students should come prepared to spend time outside in the snow. (Snow pants & coat, warm boots, hat, and gloves.)   We will spend a significant amount of time outside. Folks could also bring a snack; 4 hours of class tends to make people hungry! The Companion Rescue Workshop will give you the training to help develop your skills with three important tools needed in an avalanche rescue. Transceiver use and search methods are discussed and practiced. Use of the collapsible probe is demonstrated to ensure you can pinpoint the victim’s location, and shoveling techniques are practiced so you can effectively move tons of snow. Finally, we put it all together and practice a complete rescue from transceiver search to recovery. This workshop covers: Case Study - Mt. Proctor, BC Beacon Operations Fundamentals Coarse Search Fine Search Practice Probe Use Overview of Methods Spiral Method Beacon Search with Probe Shoveling Strategic vs. Non-Strategic Strategic Methods (Terracing, V-Shaped, Multiple Rescuers) Putting it all Together
