WLAC Fall Conference: Im/migrant Stories: Literature, Resources, & Advocacy

We believe in the power of reading and writing to tell stories that can shape our world into a more inclusive one, and we recognize the classroom as a space where transformation is always just a story away. The purpose of the Washington Language Arts Council's fall conference is to work with English and language arts educators, and teachers in the state of Washington writ-large, by supporting their students in and outside of their classrooms. In light of the current political moment, with its constant threat to people who have im/migrated, have family members who have im/migrated, who seek refuge and asylum, or who live in America as Dreamers, we work towards that transformation as a coalition of dedicated educators. At the same time, we recognize legacies of resilience and resistance by im/migrant people throughout American and international history. Through keynotes, group sessions, and workshops the conference will address a myriad of ways students and their families may be supported through literature, resources (local, state, and national), and advocacy. We also aim to support teachers in helping students who do not identify as im/migrant people to hear and understand narratives about their classmates and neighbors. Join us Saturday, October 13th for a lively full day (9am-5:30pm) conference. Consider adding a ticket to attend a limited engagement PD on Sunday, October 14th at the Wing Luke Museum. FREE clock hours are available in increments of 4, 8, or 12, depending on registration and verified attendance. For more on speakers and conference details, go to our website at
